One month after Celebration Pointe filed for bankruptcy, many businesses and residential areas on the property continue to thrive.

Gainesville’s Matheson History Museum opened an exhibit Wednesday dedicated to the museum’s history and how it has changed since the 1980s.

More than 70 people filled the seats and floor space of Loosey’s Downtown on Sunday to watch four grant-winning musicians and bands from Gainesville perform live. The grant was created by MusicGNV as a way to provide up-and-coming Gainesville musicians with studio time and name recognition in the community.

A new Florida Senate bill proposes a trial program to adopt music-based supplements to support math classes in middle schools. Alachua, Marion and Miami-Dade are the only counties eligible for the program as of Jan. 17. Middle schools would adopt the program July 1 and test it for two years until its end on June 30, 2026.

Robert “Bob” Knight, the founder of FSI, said he fears Silver Springs will meet the same fate as Gilchrest Blue Spring. In July, a sinkhole opened in the spring and flooded the water with sediment. He said it’s all empty and almost dead now. Nitrate levels are at a high, and about a third of the spring’s flow is lost.
