Marion County Fire Rescue is hosting its annual “Bear the Burden” event to raise funds for the Marion County Benevolence Fund and bring awareness to the mental health issues first responders face daily, according to an MCFR press release.

The event will be hosted on July 28 and 29 at the “Everyone Goes Home” Fitness Center, 2730 East Silver Springs Blvd.

The entry fee for competitors is $20, and each competitor will receive a free T-shirt. The competition is welcome to people of all sizes.

The competition encompasses three weightlifting techniques, the back squat, bench press and deadlift, and focuses on how much each competitor can lift in each category.
