Vehicle collision in Lafayette County injures at least 10 people

A bus carrying 39 migrant workers was involved in a T-bone vehicle collision on State Road 51 and County Road 354 in Lafayette County at around 6:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 25. There were no reported fatalities.

Eleven people were transported to the University of Florida Health Shands Hospital, Florida Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer Patrick Riordan told WUFT News.

The vehicles involved included a 2017 Freightliner semi-truck and a 2007 Freightliner bus. Riordan said the truck was traveling west on County Road 354 and the bus was traveling north on State Road 51 when the two crashed. The driver of the truck did not stop at the intersection of the two roads, which caused the bus to collide with the left side of the vehicle. He was cited on scene for failure to stop at the stop sign.

Fareeha Abrar, Guamay Martell, Mariana Ortiz and Natalia Galicza contributed reporting to this story.
