The Beginning of the Battle

April 24, 2018

On this episode of Locked Out, we introduce the many challenges Florida felons fight once they walk out of the prison gates.

Timothy left the scene of a crash. He also left his two kids, house and job when he went behind bars. With $100 in his pocket and a room at a motel, Timothy is working to rebuild his life. He is not alone.

In Florida, 1.6 million people live with a felony. We hear about people going to jail, but we don’t hear about what happens to them after they leave. For four months, we followed felons as they struggle to put roofs over their heads, secure jobs and regain their voices in society.

Just three days out of prison, we met with Timothy in Haines City, near Tampa. We followed him on his journey as he fights to stay free.
