Dunnellon Beach Reopens, May Close Again Soon

Dunnellon City Beach reopened last week after being closed for several months.

Patrons were disappointed that after being closed since November due to issues of erosion, there is now a fence up preventing access to the water.

Dunnellon City Councilman Charles Dillon said that the city plans to create a river walk with steps going into the water to help keep the soil at the bank of Rainbow River from falling into the water.

The city plans to keep the fence up as a temporary fix until construction can begin on the river walk.

In the next few weeks the city is planning to meet with a contractor to make plans for the river walk, once the plans are approved construction will begin, but likely not until October.
