One-hundred wildfires are burning in the Waccasassa Forestry District covering Alachua, Gilchrist, Levy, Marion, and Putnam Counties, and that doesn’t include the thousands of acres burning in the Suwannee District covering Baker, Bradford, Columbia, Hamilton, Suwannee, and Union Counties. WUFT-FM’s Shannon McCarthy spoke with Florida Division of Forestry Wildfire Mitigation Specialist, Ludie Bond who says federally contracted resources such as helicopters and land tanks have been an integral tool when fighting fires that threaten buildings and homes. Here is an update on the latest wildfire developments in North Central Florida.
