• Florida Politics: Modeling forecast warns Florida’s delta variant wave still hasn’t peaked. "UF biostatistics professor Ira Longini, Ph.D., worked with Thomas Hladish, a UF biology research scientist, to develop a mathematical model that projects the number of reported COVID-19 cases in Florida through the end of 2021."
• Florida Storms: Regardless of Fred's Path, Flooding is a Likely Hazard This Weekend in Florida. "Forecast data is suggesting one of two possible scenarios might unfold once Fred moves away from the Greater Antilles and toward Florida Friday and Saturday. Wind and surge impacts could vary greatly in some places depending on which one comes to pass, but the greatest hazard to most Floridians will be heavy rain and potential flooding."
• Spectrum News: DeSantis: Would ‘fight back vociferously’ against any Biden mask overrule. "The governor perhaps referred to reports that the Biden administration was 'checking' to see whether it could intervene to stop states, specifically Florida and Texas, from imposing bans on mask mandates."
• Mainstreet Daily News: Simon, McNealy respond to FDOE as court date nears. "Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran threatened on Monday to withhold funding equal to the salaries of the entire Alachua County School Board and Alachua County Public Schools Superintendent Carlee Simon over a face mask mandate. ... According to ACPS spokesperson Jackie Johnson, those salaries total $336,148."
• Ocala Gazette: City OKs $6.1 million in COVID-19 relief spending. "As part of the plan, the council approved portions of the money for water projects, replacing lost city revenue and helping local non-profit organizations."
