As Hurricane Dorian churns as a Category 4 in the Atlantic Ocean, the latest National Weather Service briefing has some optimistic news for Alachua County residents.
Monday's 11 a.m. report highlighted that there is a near-zero chance for hurricane-force winds in Alachua County.
County spokesman Mark Sexton warns people to stay on the cautious side.
“Take a deep breath. The news is good for Alachua County right now. We aren’t at the point where we say ‘Let your guard down completely’ until that storm has passed,” Sexton said.
Alachua County is expected to undergo some storm conditions late Tuesday or early Wednesday and is currently under a tropical storm advisory, but no warning or watch has been issued yet.
Alachua County government is also expected to resume its normal business hours on Tuesday following the Labor Day holiday.
