A local woman was arrested Monday after police said she pulled a gun on her girlfriend during an argument at the Rosa Parks bus depot on Southeast Third Street at a bus station.
Taljah Lang, 24, was arrested on charges of second degree aggravated battery, carrying a concealed firearm and a first degree weapon offense of possessing an altered firearm.
Police said a woman removed a handgun from her backpack, pressed the butt of the gun into another woman's head and then shoved her away. After witnessing the event, Regional Transit System personnel delayed Lang from boarding the bus until Gainesville Police Department officers arrived to detain her.
"We get calls from time to time at different locations around the city, including RTS bus stops," Officer Ben Tobias, GPD spokesman, said. "Calls of this magnitude, fortunately, do not happen every day."
Chip Skinner, RTS marketing and communications supervisor, said employees are trained for these types of situations as part of a program set up by the Department of Homeland Security.
"We put our operators and supervisors, and even our administration staff, through what is called a first-observer training," Skinner said. "Meaning, we are trained to look for suspicious packages, suspicious activities and things of that nature."
In addition to the gun, which had the serial number filed off, Lang was found in possession of "an abundance of ammunition," according to a report by GPD.
