Community mourns Christian Aguilar

More than 100 people gathered Monday night at  St. Augustine Church and Catholic Student Center, in Gainesville, to show their love and faith in the memory of Christian Aguilar.

The 18-year-old University of Florida student was reported missing in late September, prompting an outpouring of volunteers to help search for him.  The search efforts grew after Pedro Bravo told investigators he beat Aguilar unconscious in a wooded area. Bravo was charged with first-degree murder Oct. 8, about thee weeks after Aguilar was reported missing.

Shortly before the service, investigators were able to confirm that human remains, found last week in Levy County, were those of Christian Aguilar.  A cause of death has not yet been determined.

Speakers at the service included Aguilar's family, friends, and University of Florida President Bernie Machen.
