VP candidates to debate tonight

VP debate

Voters listened to the presidential candidates last week, and tonight they'll have an opportunity to get a better feel for the vice-presidential candidates.

Vice President Joe Biden and Congressman Paul Ryan will debate at Centre College in Danville, Ky., at 9 p.m.

The candidates will discuss foreign and domestic policy.

Voters who back President Barack Obama hope that Biden has a better showing against Ryan. That includes Cindy Bernius, a Gainesville resident and Obama supporter.

"I watched the presidential debate and was a little disappointed in my candidate of choice, so the vice presidential debate is very important to me tonight," she said.

Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Pam Carpenter said tonight's debate can be a useful tool for voters still trying to make up their minds.

"Events like tonight's debate between the vice presidential candidates give our citizens an opportunity to tune in and to do a little background checking and see what the candidates' perspectives are on the issues," she said.

"It's a real opportunity for them to get to know the candidates."

The debate can be heard on Florida's 89.1 WUFT-FM.
