What’s great about Gainesville

Richard Pusateri is a typical, everyday family man. On Tuesday, he took his wife and kids to Bo Diddley Plaza for a day out because of their love for the city.

“I think it’s the people — that family feeling — you know people,” Pusateri said. “I’ve been here for a long time, I’ve been downtown for 10-plus years and I feel like its a family.”

The Gainesville city commission and housing authority met Tuesday afternoon to discuss just this: What makes this city great?

While some residents gave praise to the people and southern comfort feel, others said it’s the connectivity in the community that makes Gainesville stand out.

“What I think makes Gainesville great is the people,” resident James Goff said. “It’s got to be the people.”

University of Florida students make up a large part of this community, and some things they love about being in Gainesville included football season, going to class, Greek life, coffee shops and local restaurants.
