UFPD responds to a fight outside Ben HIll Griffin Stadium involving two Florida Gator football players on Monday, October 6, 2014 in Gainesville, Fla.

University of Florida Police said two Gator football players involved in a fight Monday night have dropped charges against each other.

UFPD spokesman Maj. Brad Barber said redshirt sophomore quarterback Skyler Mornhinweg and freshman defensive lineman Gerald Willis got into a fight around 7 p.m. outside the Heavener Football Complex on the UF campus.

A UFPD cruiser was seen speeding west on Stadium Road with lights flashing and sirens blaring before stopping at the corner of Gale Lemerand Drive and Stadium Road in front of the football complex.

Several football players were seen leaving the area.

Shortly after police arrived, an athletic trainer wearing rubber gloves wiped up what appeared to be blood on the top step in front of the complex.

Barber said both players were charged with battery, but later in the evening each of them submitted complaint withdrawals. As a result, there are no formal charges.

Barber did not know what instigated the fight.

UF senior associate athletics director Steve McClain “It was a misunderstanding between teammates.”
