WUFT Morning Edition host, Glenn Richards, recently spoke with Dave Pirner, the front man and creative force behind the multi-platinum selling Minneapolis alternative rock band, Soul Asylum.
Soul Asylum is returning to North Central Florida on Friday, November 17th at 7:30 PM at the Reilly Arts Center in Ocala with special guests Drivin’ n’ Cryin’.
Soul Asylum’s Grammy-award winning hit “Runaway Train” from their 1992 breakthrough album, Grave Dancers Union, featured a memorable music video which brought nearly two dozen missing and exploited children and teens around the world home to their families.
2020’s Hurry Up and Wait, their twelfth studio album, was the first release by the band since Pirner’s divorce and moving back to Minnesota after living in New Orleans for several years. Also in 2020, Pirner published Loud, Fast, Words, a book of his lyrics accompanied by commentary and essays about each Soul Asylum album and song.
Earlier this year, the band released their famous 1993 MTV Unplugged performance on vinyl for the first time ever as a 2023 Record Store Day exclusive and it was released digitally to streaming services just last week, Friday, November 10.
Soul Asylum is finalizing a brand new album for 2024. The album reunites the band with producer Steve Jordan (drummer for Keith Richards and the Rolling Stones) who produced their 1990 release, And the Horse They Rode In On.
Glenn caught up with Dave via phone on Wednesday while the band was in Baton Rouge and they talked about all of that and more. Enjoy!
