The 2016 Florida Book Awards winners were announced on February 18th and the 2016 book, "Music Everywhere: The Rock and Roll Roots of a Southern Town" (2016, University Press of Florida), was awarded a bronze medal in the Florida Nonfiction category.
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, two Eagles (Bernie Leadon and Don Felder), and Stephen Stills: all in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and all started making music in Gainesville in the 1960s. Musician Marty Jourard (The Motels) was there, too, and tells the story in his award-winning book.
WUFT-FM Morning Edition host, Glenn Richards, spoke with Marty about his book on the Gainesville music scene of the '60s and '70s prior to the book release event at the Matheson History Museum on April 21, 2016. Please enjoy this re-posting of their conversation.
