They may all be cute and cuddly creatures, but the odds are stacked against them to get adopted.

The Clay County Animal Services (CCAS) created a championship to give deserving dogs a home. Sixteen dogs were chosen for the adoption tournament modeled after March Madness.

County and City Commissioners are taking action against "irresponsible pet owners" after a string of "dangerous dog" attacks, perpetrated mostly by pit bulls. The attacks have resulted in euthanasia of injured animals and even the death of a 2-year-old boy.

Alachua County Animal Services has been working to reach no-kill status since 2001. Now, they're only four percent away from their goal.
