Gov. Rick Scott opens possibility of more early voting days

Gov. Rick Scott said Wednesday that Florida needs to look at a larger early voting period.

Scott refused to extend early voting to the Sunday before the Nov. 6 election. He said during a CNN interview Wednesday, though, that Florida needs to consider an expansion of early voting.

"People are frustrated in our state," he said. "We've gotta restore confidence in our election."

Scott also said the state should look at limiting the length of its ballot and giving local election officials more flexibility with polling site size.

In defending his refusal to order early voting on the Sunday before the election, the Republican governor said he was complying with a new law that he signed last year. It cut the number of early voting days including that particular Sunday, which traditionally was favored by Democratic-leaning black voters.
