The future of Gator baseball started Friday.
The University of Florida broke ground at midday for a $65 million baseball facility. It should be ready for the 2021 season and will be built on what used to be UF/IFAS research property on the southwest area of campus near Dizney Stadium.
Once the baseball team starts playing there, the old McKethan stadium will be razed so new football facilities can be built. Among other features, the new stadium will have shade for fans, something not available at the current stadium.
