A woman survived after being shot in the head while on the phone with 911 in Fanning Springs on Tuesday.
The woman was calling to report her husband’s drunk and aggressive behavior when the 911 operator heard gunfire, Lt. Scott Tummond said in a press release from the Levy County Sheriff’s Office. The woman told the operator she had been shot.
George Halleran, 58, shot his wife in the forehead with a .38-caliber handgun.
The first deputy on the scene was able to safely separate the victim and her 84-year-old mother from Halleran.
Halleran was ordered to surrender and had to be subdued before being handcuffed.
Halleran is being charged with attempted murder, domestic battery and resisting arrest without violence, according to the press release. He is being held at the Levy County Detention Facility on over $3 million bond.
The victim was transported to Shands at the University of Florida where she received treatment for a non-life-threatening injury and is being held for observation.
