Residents near the Gainesville Renewable Energy Center have told local officials the plant is too loud.
The Gainesville-owned biomass plant is undergoing testing before it becomes fully operational, but residents of the Turkey Creek Golf and Country Club have said the noise level is already unbearable.
Janis Youngblood, a resident of Turkey Creek, said the noise is loud enough to hear over a machine she uses at night to help with her sleep apnea. She said the noise sounds like "a plane taking off, but it never lands."

Alachua City Commissioner Robert Wilford said local officials are taking the issue seriously and are doing all they can to resolve it with the GREC.
He said the residents of Turkey Creek should continue bringing the issue to their local officials.
