Despite their eco-friendliness, green roofs are still not entirely implemented in Florida due to concerns over their resistance to natural catastrophes like Hurricanes. Glenn Acomb, senior lecturer in landscape architecture at UF, has done extensive research has yielded positive results so far, but the Florida Building Code has been reluctant to accept their implementation.

The 14th annual music festival Fest will kickoff Friday in downtown Gainesville, and will continue until the early hours of Monday morning. An expected crowd of more than 10,000 people will be in attendance this year.

Annual Banned Books Week from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3 was celebrated at UF in the Plaza of the Americas on Thursday. Students read literature aloud from different authors who's work has been challenged in public schools. The goal for Banned Books Week is to celebrate the liberty to read.
