Around 50 Gainesville residents joined a Zoom town hall Wednesday to hear from Casey Willits, Gainesville’s district 3 commissioner for southwest Gainesville.

A bill that would’ve added a $200 annual license tax to register electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles died before the end of Florida’s annual legislative session, never getting a hearing from the Senate’s Appropriations Committee.

The Florida Department of Health reported that in 2022, the rate of deaths from stroke in Alachua County was higher than the rate for the entire state of Florida, per 100,000 people.

This past year, the Florida Museum of Natural History completed three Notices of Inventory Completion and one Notice of Intent to Repatriate Cultural Items for the national NAGPRA program. Notices of Inventory Completion identify cultural affiliation with ancestors and cultural belongings, while Notices of Intent to Repatriate Cultural Items indicate that a request for repatriation has been received and accepted.
