Schoolchildren, teachers, anti-death penalty advocates and attorneys gathered across the street from the Florida State Prison in Raiford Thursday protesting the execution of David Dillbeck, a convicted murderer.

On Thursday Mark Asay was sentenced to death for the 1987 murders of two Jacksonville men, after nearly 30 years of waiting on death row. His case sparked controversy, as some of its circumstances were debated for decades.

Former death row inmate Herman Lindsey testified on Feb. 22 before the legislature in hopes of raising awareness about changes to the death penalty bill. However, the bill still passed the Florida Legislature and was signed by Gov. Scott on Monday.
