Lance Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles by the International Cycling Union Monday morning amid claims from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency that Armstrong headed up massive doping programs on his teams.
Cabe Clisler, the service manager at Super Cool Bike Shop at 3460 W. University Ave. in Gainesville, said many in the cycling community saw this coming.
"Everyone keeps saying everyone's a villain, but it's really a product of that point in time in cycling," he said. "You have the most money, the most powerful team. That's what you did to win."
Though Clisler doesn't agree with the union's decision, he said he understands the reasoning behind it.
Clisler believes that the sport's image will be fine.
"It's going to be kind of a media freak show for a little bit but then I think it will calm down and everything will be normal," he said. "I mean, all cycling and racing is going on fine. We had the last tour in the Olympics without any hitches.
