Troy-Baker Robinson, 35, of Gainesville, had a bond hearing Thursday in regard to charges filed against him for stalking and burglary earlier this month. Both of his parents were present on Zoom for the hearing.
At the hearing, Robinson’s attorney stated Robinson had a job paying in the thousands weekly, and had his own apartment near midtown.
His parents, who were addressed as Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, told the judge they were not aware of their son having any sort of job. His mother told the court she did not believe what her son was relaying to the court was true.
Robinson’s father told the judge his son was mentally ill and needed rehabilitation rather than to be released.
“Troy is ill — he needs care,” he said. “To put him back on the streets would be a huge disservice to him.”
Robinson was previously arrested by the Gainesville Police Department after occupying a vacant apartment and stalking a University of Florida student. He’s had numerous criminal cases filed against him before — his Sept. 14 arrest report listed his address as “homeless.”
An arrest report notes Robinson sent the victim in the case numerous implicit text messages — one reads “Hi baby I miss you I love you” and “My Beautiful wife its your husband Troy I love you text me when you wake up or call.”
Robinson was previously placed on a no-contact order against the accuser, though he sent numerous texts throughout August asking if she was on campus.
“I love my son, I want him to know that,” Robinson’s mother said. “I am doing this for his own good.”
The judge said Robinson’s current bond, which is about $10,000, is “remarkably reasonable” and denied Robinson’s attorney’s motion.
Robinson is currently banned from UF’s campus, Shands North and UF Health properties.
