Accused Murderer Caught In Micanopy

Correction: This story was updated to reflect new information from Alachua County Sheriff's Office. A previous version incorrectly stated Gutierrez was on parole for attempted murder.

Twenty-four hours into the search for accused murderer Ruben Gutierrez, he was found in Micanopy by a K-9 officer.

Brett Rhodenizer, spokesman for the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, credits a service dog and the Micanopy community for making the arrest possible.

"The dog's name is Huk, h-u-k, and he's a good boy," said Rhodenizer.

"They provided over and over again, throughout the entire search, places that we could look, areas that they were suspicious of and they continued to provide that information to the sheriff's office," he added.

Gutierrez, who is a convicted felon and was on sex offender probation when arrested, is now facing three felonies and one misdemeanor charge in Alachua county and is expected to be charged with murder in Suwannee County.
