With the holidays and festivities approaching, there will be lots of cooking but also a greater danger of fires. And the Gainesville Fire Rescue is preparing for those possibilities.
Cooking fires are four times more likely to happen on Thanksgiving, because people get distracted and leave the food unattended, according to the Gainesville Fire Rescue.
The firefighters are receiving hands-on training to respond to these types of situations.
"We can get a lot of knowledge from books, and we really practice on trying to make certain that all of our folks stay highly educated," said Michael Cowart, Gainesville Fire Rescue operations chief. "But when it comes down to the actual skills of the trade we need hands-on experience," he said.
If you experience any fire, then call 911 immediately.
