Soon after Zalome Briceño Ochoa graduated this spring from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, she was hired as a multimedia journalist and reporter for NBC Telemundo 60 in San Antonio, Texas.
When she was at UF, Briceño used every opportunity she could to sharpen her journalism skills. She was a production crew member for WUFT-TV News at Five, where she created full-screen and OTS graphics; worked as a floor manager setting up and wrapping up live shows; operated the camera; and did various other jobs needed to get the news on air. She was also a radio reporter, pitching and working on local and investigative stories. She also was a contributing writer for WUFT.org.
In addition to her bachelor’s in broadcast journalism, Briceño also earned a bachelor’s degree in political science while at UF. She belongs to several university organizations, including the Hispanic Communicators Association, the Peruvian American Student Society and the National Broadcasting Society.
