Two UF systems were hacked, investigation ongoing

Two of UF's systems were hacked by a group in protest against higher education Tuesday.

The group, that calls itself Team GhostShell, hacked into about 100 universities around the world, said Janine Sykes, UF spokeswoman.

"They bypassed at least one level of security to enter two UF systems, one in College of Medicine and other in Office of Contracts and Grants," Sykes said.

Sykes said she believes most of the information stolen was directory information, but she said she won't know what was stolen or who it affects until after the investigation.

The UF Office of Information Security and Compliance is investigating the virtual break-in.

"When they learned of the issue Tuesday, we immediately blocked access to affected issues," she said. "... They are trying to figure out what kind of information was accessed and when it was accessed."
