Eastside High School Culinary Program Lauded Nationally

The Culinary Arts Academy at Eastside High School was recently named one of the top 50 programs in the country.

Eastside was named to Sullivan University's Elite 50 list, compiled by the university's National Center for Hospitality studies, known as one of the most prestigious culinary and hospitality arts programs in the nation. Located in East Gainesville, Eastside was the only school in Florida to make the list.

"One of the big things we try to do at Eastside is to actually get students into the industry," Chef Billie DeNunzio said. Her program allows students to gain real-world culinary experience by catering at events and working in local restaurants.

Brandon McDonald, a Culinary Arts Academy student, said the program gives Eastisde's students new opportunities.

"If you want to try something, try it," McDonald said.  "If you think you're good at something, do it, and be good at it."
