A heads up for your travels around Gainesville over the coming weeks: you will hit a traffic delay or two on NW 8th Avenue.
Multiple lanes are closed for construction, and while construction will pause for Thanksgiving and on Friday, it will resume Monday.
Gainesville's Public Works Department has resurfaced the east and westbound lanes from 40th Street to 34th Street. Workers are now resurfacing past the 8th Avenue overpass at 13th Street, as well as improving sidewalks.
People are warned to expect daytime lane closures and changing traffic patterns.
"We're trying to maintain safe access for not only motorists, but also the pedestrians and the bicyclists," said Chip Skinner, Public Works Department spokesman. "That's why we're incorporating bike lanes, as well as that multi-use trail."
What about those statues on the Solar Walk? Not going anywhere.
