A shortage of parking spots in Gainesville may lead to more expensive residential parking permits.
The price for the permits may increase from the current price of $19.50 to as much as $240, City Commissioner Thomas Hawkins said. Permits are valid from their issue date to Sept. 30.
Commissioner Todd Chase said the decision is not final and will go back to committee for further discussion.
The process for buying parking permits may change, too. Currently, the permits can be bought online, but the committee suggested changing to an in-person process.
The price increase may depend on factors such as location, how many people are in a household and how many bedrooms the house has.
