A Florida Senate bill that would allow designated school district employees or volunteers to carry concealed weapons has been postponed.
According to a Florida Senate agenda online, SB 180 was scheduled for a vote in the Committee on Education Pre-K-12 on Tuesday. However, committee member Sen. Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, made a motion for temporary postponement of the bill. No motion against Galvano's recommendation was made.
WUFT reached out to Galvano and committee vice chair Sen. Nancy Detert, R-Venice, for comment, but neither was immediately available on Wednesday.
Ten of the committee’s 11 members were in attendance -- Sen. Rene Garcia, R-Hialeah, was excused.
SB 180 passed the Committee on Criminal Justice on March 23 with a 3-2 vote.
