University of Florida Housing Director Azfar Mian, suspected by investigators of using more than $180,000 in university funds on personal items and services, was terminated on Monday, the university announced today.
Mian, 41, had been on administrative leave following his Sept. 18 arrest on a charge of grand larceny.
Meanwhile, Kevin Morgan, an IT employee for UF's housing department, has been cleared of involvement and will return to work Thursday, UF spokeswoman Janine Sikes said in a news release.
Morgan was one of six total housing employees placed on administrative leave in the investigation into the housing department's spending. The other four will remain on leave for now, Sikes said.
Mian said he bought the furniture items for UF and not himself. Money was also spent on electronics, meals, landscaping equipment and personal bills, including internet and electricity, according to Mian's arrest report.
Correction: This article originally said Mian's termination happened today. It actually happened on Monday but was announced by the university today.
