Marion County neighborhood has "Guts" against violence

Just three weeks after a student was beaten unconscious in a fight on a Marion County school bus, one mother is rallying the community to start a positive program for students. The brawl occurred when a Liberty Middle School student could not find a seat and was beaten by other students.  Now as Florida's 89.1, WUFT-FM's Elizabeth Odom reports, Faye Goring, whose son was also on the bus, has started a program called Guts, to help kids learn how to tell when there is a problem and handle it without violence.

Spokesman for Marion County Schools, Kevin Christian says he's not aware of the "Guts" program.  He says proper procedures were followed by the bus driver during the incident.  He says the school system is not expected to make any changes to those procedures.

Five of the six students involved in the January 6th fight on the Marion County School bus have been chared with battery and disorderly conduct charges while the 6th student has been charged with assault and disorderly conduct.
