On Monday, Florida’s marriage licenses and certificate applications recognized gay marriage by changing the terms "bride" and "groom" to the gender-neutral term "spouse." While this is another victory for the LGBT community, they still face unresolved issues regarding other legal documents, such as birth certificates.

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson met with UF researchers to discuss the impact that rising seas will have on North Florida and to look for ways to make the public aware. He questioned whether a natural disaster would have to occur before people grasp the severity of the threat.

Infant fatalities are on the rise in Duval County, but the Department of Children and Families is strategizing how to bring awareness to parents and caretakers about unsafe sleeping practices. It has made resources and information available to the community about past child fatalities and how to prevent them.
