Voters in Marion County will soon have the choice to extend a one percent sales tax for four more years, going into effect on Jan. 1, 2021, and ending on Dec. 31, 2024.
According to the ballot referendum language, the sales tax would go toward public safety, capital facilities, equipment needs and road projects throughout the county. The ballot defines public safety as law enforcement, fire, animal control and emergency medical services. If the referendum does not pass, the tax would end on Dec. 31.
The sales tax was first approved by voters in 2016.
Voters will also have the chance to elect either Allison Campbell or Lori Conrad in the District 1 Marion County School Board race, a runoff from the August primary.
Early voting in Marion County will begin on Oct. 19 and run through Oct. 31 daily, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Find your early voting location here.
