Alachua County Library District hosts laptop giveaway

The Alachua County Library District is partnering with the United Way to give out 70 laptops to residents in need.

Applicants had until Wednesday to visit the library and sign up to be eligible to receive one. Those selected will be notified via phone or email on Monday. The program is limited to Alachua County residents, and sign-up was only available at the University Avenue Headquarters location.

The district expects many of these recipients to be technologically challenged in some way, so each recipient is required to attend a 90-minute training session hosted by library workers.

The training session will be followed with a presentation by Cox Communications on low-cost internet solutions.

Upon selection, participants will have three different dates to choose from. The Headquarters branch staff will offer a session on Oct. 12 at 5 p.m., the Alachua branch hosts one on Oct. 13 at 1:30 p.m. and the final event will be at Tower Road on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 3 p.m.
