Children in Alachua County will continue receiving free meals this summer.
Alachua County Public Schools is part of the federally-funded Summer Food Service Program that provides all children 18 years old and younger with nutritional breakfasts and lunches.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture offers the program, which is available to areas where at least 50 percent of children qualify for free and reduced-price meals during the school year.
And Maria Eunice, Alachua County food and nutrition director, said all children can receive free meals, regardless of their eligibility or enrollment during the school year.
Last year, students claimed about $130,000 worth of federally-funded meals to feed Alachua County students. Eunice's department oversees the funding.
