Three new coronavirus deaths were reported today in Alachua County, increasing the county’s total COVID-19 fatalities to five, according to the Florida Department of Health.

This is the largest number of reported deaths that Alachua County has seen in a single day.

Alachua County Department of Health Director Paul Myers said the three new fatalities are linked to long-term care facilities. A previously reported death was also tied to a long-term care facility.

While Myers could not specify which Alachua facilities have reported deaths, he did confirm that the state will be releasing that information to the public “tomorrow evening or sometime next week.”

As of Thursday evening, the state’s list of facility cases reports that four facilities in Alachua account for 46 of the county’s confirmed cases, or 17%.

Statewide, 2,028,635 unemployment claims have been filed as of April 28. Just over 404,300 of those claims have been paid, totaling $553,555,251 thus far in relief payments.

Here are the latest COVID-19 updates by the Florida Department of Health, as of Thursday evening:

  • 33,690 total cases in Florida
  • 5,589 hospitalizations in Florida
  • 1,268 deaths in Florida

Alachua County has one more confirmed case and two more hospitalizations since yesterday:
