Keeping plants and gardens safe through the winter cold

With temperatures continuing to drop and a hard freeze last night, it is not too late to protect your plants from the cold. Marion County IFAS Extension Agent Norma Samuel says plants can be carefully covered or brought in to shelter.

She says the best protection against the cold should be taken months before chilly temperatures set in, but last minute measures like watering plants before a freeze will still help keep them alive through the winter.

She says some damage is not obvious, so all plants should be tended to. More information and tips can be found on the IFAS website.
