Suspect arrested after second day of threatening social media posts against Marion County Schools

Marion County law enforcement officials made an arrest Friday hours after an anonymous threat via social media to Marion County Public Schools.

The arrest came after a second consecutive day of threats created on Facebook. The threat caused fear and confusion throughout the community, officials said.

Kevin Christian, director of public relations for Marion County Schools, said the threats unsettled the daily routine of scores of people.

“What happens with a threat like this is that it completely disrupts the entire day," Christian said. "Not just for the schools and the school system but for our entire community.”

Law enforcement officials said the first threat was made on social media Thursday. A second threat on Friday mentioned specific schools and specific teachers.

Some parents checked their children out of school. Other parents kept their children in school but wanted to ensure that they were safe.

Forest High School in Ocala was one of several schools named in a threat made on social media to Marion County Public Schools Friday.
