Alachua County Searches for New Elections Office

Alachua County is in search of a new elections office in time for the 2016 presidential election.

During a meeting Tuesday, the Alachua County Commission discussed possible areas for the new office. Vertical Integration, the real estate company in charge of finding the property, has come up with several possible areas.

Mike Griffin, a real estate broker at Vertical Integration, suggested five sites that could hold the new office, one of which is a large shopping center located at 2340 N. Main St. in Gainesville.

The commission said they intend to make a decision by Feb. 11.

Alachua County Supervisor of Elections, Pam Carpenter, said she hopes to be settled in a new office by April 2015.

"We cannot do another presidential election in the space that we're in right now," she said. "I had staff members being hit in the head with ballots because we don't have a place to store live ballots."
