Parking fees may change in downtown Gainesville

Gainesville residents could soon see changes in parking fees for downtown. The proposal has been approved by the City Commission’s Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Public Works Committee. The 100 free spots may soon be replaced with parking meters. If given the final okay from the City Commission, the price would change from 25 cents an hour to 50 cents an hour for all parking lots and from 50 cents an hour to $1 an hour on the street. Gainesville native Corey Sawyer is very upset about the proposed changes because it will keep him from frequenting downtown.
