Anti-Circumcision Group Holds Protest In Gainesville

The anti-circumcision group Bloodstained Men held a protest Thursday in Gainesville on the corner of 34th Street and Archer Road. The group travels around the country advocating for its cause. The Gainesville protest was the eighth of a 19-day tour of Florida.

Though the group said male newborn circumcision claims more than 100 deaths per year, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention endorse circumcisions among infants because it is useful to prevent sexually transmitted infections later in life. The American Academy of Pediatrics website says that minor complications happen in 1 out 500 infants and devastating complications or deaths are so rare that there are no statistics, only case studies.
