North Florida Rivers Rise, Nixing Swimming And Canoeing

Swimming and canoeing has been suspended on the Santa Fe River at Three Rivers Estate.Recent heavy rainfall has caused the Suwannee River to rise above the flood stage.O’Leno State Park Ranger David McCorquodale said the park does not want people drowning as a result of swift currents.The extra precaution is in response to two men who drowned in the Suwannee River in March.Lars Anderson, a friend of one of the victims, cautions park-goers to wear a life jacket while tubing in strong currents.He also suggests boaters avoid floating objects that could harm the boat.“People need to be very cautious if they go on the river this weekend,” Anderson said.
