University of Florida's Lastinger Center for Learning contributed to research encouraging school districts nationwide to adopt teacher coaching to promote student success in the classroom. UF is offering training to seven school districts and thirty Early Learning coalitions, and coaches-in-training can tailor the program to their school's needs.
Alyson Adams, a UF education professor, said the teachers realize where they need to grow, which empowers them with a voice and a choice in their work.
"What coaching does is help the teachers to see data, to see evidence of their classroom of the impact their instruction is having," said Dorene Ross, Lastinger Center development specialist.
At years end, the coaches submit a video showing progress to earn their UF certification. This coaching approach was a part of a new publication, Coaching for Impact, which was announced Friday at a national conference in Indianapolis.
