One Putnam County elementary school is closed today because of smoky conditions from the Olive fire in Levy Prairie. Wildfire mitigation specialist Ludie Bond says this is not the first time this fire has caused such complications.
School officials will decide later today if Ochwilla Elementary will remain closed another day. Bond says the smoky conditions will continue because of changing weather patterns.
The fire has stayed between 750 and 800 acres and is mostly within the containment lines. She says although their perimeter is working effectively, an end to the fire itself is not in sight.
She says parents along the Alachua/Putnam border need to stay aware of current conditions. Updated school closures can be found on the Putnam Schoolswebsite.
