Groundbreaking ceremonies for new Senior Center in Gainesville

Senior citizens in Alachua County will soon have a brand new recreation facility, complete with tennis courts, nature trails, as well as a specialized fitness center. Ground was officially broken today on the Senior Recreation Facility of Alachua County, which has been in the works for many years. When completed next summer, the facility will encompass more than 17,000-square-feet of recreational space. The center is located in City Commissioner Scherwin Henry’s district. Henry played a big role in helping the center become a reality. At today’s event, Commissioner Henry shared with us how the project first began.
