PALATKA — On the first and third weekends of September through May, families gather at Hog Waller -- a 1,100-acre outdoor family-fun park -- to ride ATVs, UTVs and specially designed trucks and cars.
The privately owned park, located at 440 County Road 310, features forest trails and a large mud pit that attracts people from all over the state to kick-up dirt in and ride through.
The mud pit is more than six acres wide and is situated at about 10 feet below ground level. A fence with two thick safety cables surrounds the pit.
Throughout the season, the park also hosts airboat races and competitions. Hog Waller provides bathing facilities and restrooms, and vendors at the park offer clothing, food, and vehicle supplies.
Gates open for campers on Fridays at 2 p.m. and for regular patrons at 7:30 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The pit closes at 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Entrance is $15 per person, and children 10 and younger are allowed free admission. For more information about the park visit www.hogwallermudbog.com.
